At-a-Glance Benefits of Our Unique Choir School
A one-of-a-kind education for boys in grades 3–8! At Saint Paul’s Choir School, we combine world-class musical training with academic excellence and a deep foundation in Catholic faith. Families choose us not only for our rigorous curriculum, but because of the transformative, joyful experience their sons gain through community, character-building, and sacred music. Here are a few quick facts that make our school truly exceptional:
why a choir school education?
1
As a Choir school, we emphasize that music and choral singing is at SPCS's foundation and is centered around one of the best Catholic Choirs of Men and Boys in United States.
2
While the music program is diverse and includes many types of performance opportunities, choral singing is the primary focus, principally in service to the liturgies at St. Paul's Church.
3
Though the Choir sings at all the major liturgies of St. Paul's Church, it frequently tours to sing around the U.S. and internationally, including performances with such world-class ensembles as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Landmarks Orchestra. The privilege of singing with the choir in the renowned acoustics of St. Paul's is an experience that stays with all of the boys for life.
4
It is the best possible exposure to the great choral and organ music of the Church, and many boys go on to musical careers later in life.
5
The poise and confidence that boys develop singing complex pieces in front of large audiences prepares them in so many ways to excel in high school, college and life.
why an all boys education?
1
As a Boys school, we intentionally structure the day for the ways boys learn best.
2
The entire educational experience helps boys grow into young men of integrity, empathy, service, resilience and confidence.
3
We share an appreciation for the intensity and complexity of boyhood and we celebrate and value everything it means to be a boy. We seek to form good men.
4
We understand that boys develop and learn in different ways.
5
Without the social pressures of a coed environment, students in an all-boys school also can explore the full range of their personalities and potential. Avoiding stereotypes, they discover they have many roles to play as a scholar, musician, artist, athlete, and friend.
why a catholic education?
1
Our Catholic faith tradition informs nearly every aspect of SPCS.
2
The mission of a Catholic School isn't to just help a boy get into a great high school or later a great college — it is to point a boy toward Heaven and to choose a purpose in life that positively impacts others.
3
Every boy studies the basic beliefs and faith practices of Catholicism and comes to appreciate the 2,000-plus year history and the reasons why one billion people share the Catholic faith across the world today.
4
In recognition of the importance of prayer in order to grow in relationship with God, Holy Mass is celebrated each school day.
5
It is the hope that through the singing of the Mass and understanding the rich musical tradition of the Church, each boy will appreciate at a deeper level the power of God in his life and thus respond as faith-filled individuals.
6
Attending Mass for Catholic boys also involves so much more than singing and serving. It also involves the reception of Holy Communion, which as Catholics we believe is a sacramental encounter with Jesus. Non-Catholic students approach the priest for a prayerful blessing at this time.
why at harvard square?
1
Harvard Square is one of the world’s great intellectual hubs and a source of great energy to those that seek greater knowledge, influence and impact.
2
Many SPCS graduates move to elite high schools and then to the top universities in the US. We have had many SPCS students return to study at Harvard – including 3 of our former students currently.
3
Walking around Harvard Square definitely has a positive impact on the boys. Singing at Mass and at concerts for people that visit Harvard Square from all corners of the globe also is a very positive experience.
