Why Choose Saint Paul's Choir School?

The Benefits of Our Unique Choir School
A one-of-a-kind education for boys in grades 3–8! At Saint Paul’s Choir School, we combine world-class musical training with academic excellence and a deep foundation in Catholic faith. Families choose us not only for our rigorous curriculum, but because of the transformative, joyful experience their sons gain through community, character-building, and sacred music.
In addition, many SPCS graduates go on to attend highly selective high schools and later enroll at some of the top universities in the United States. We are especially proud that a number of former SPCS students have returned to study at Harvard University, including three alumni who are currently enrolled there.

Why a choir school education?
As a Choir school, we emphasize that music and choral singing is at Saint Paul's foundation and is centered around one of the best Catholic Choirs of Men and Boys in United States.
Though the Choir sings at all the major liturgies of St. Paul's Church, it frequently tours to sing around the U.S. and internationally, including performances with such world-class ensembles as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Landmarks Orchestra. The privilege of singing with the choir in the renowned acoustics of St. Paul's is an experience that stays with all of the boys for life.
While choral singing—primarily in service to the liturgies of St. Paul’s Church—is at the heart of our program, our music curriculum offers a wide range of performance opportunities both nationally and internationally. Recent tours have taken our students abroad, including a visit to Vatican City, where they sang at the Vatican and participated in events alongside the Pope. Most recently, they traveled to France, performing in some of the country’s most renowned cathedrals, including those in Paris and Solesmes.
The poise, discipline, and confidence that boys develop through performing complex musical works before large audiences prepare them to excel in high school, college, and beyond. The program provides an exceptional introduction to the rich choral and organ traditions of the Church, fostering both musical skill and personal growth. Many alumni continue their musical pursuits in high school and college, and some go on to successful careers in music.

Why an all-boys education?
Without the social pressures of a coed environment, students in an all-boys school also can explore the full range of their personalities and potential. Avoiding stereotypes, they discover they have many roles to play as a scholar, musician, artist, athlete, and friend.
We share an appreciation for the intensity and complexity of boyhood and we celebrate and value everything it means to be a boy. We seek to form good men.
We understand that boys develop and learn in different ways, therefore we intentionally structure the day for the ways boys learn best.
The entire educational experience helps boys grow into young men of integrity, empathy, service, resilience and confidence.

"To make friends is an understatement, because when you're here for all that time and doing everything with everyone, you get to know someone really well and it feels like you're family." Colin Lapus, Organist Class of 2017
Why a catholic education?
Our Catholic faith tradition informs nearly every aspect of Saint Paul's. The mission of a Catholic School isn't to just help a boy get into a great high school or later a great college — it is to point a boy toward Heaven and to choose a purpose in life that positively impacts others.
In recognition of the importance of prayer in order to grow in relationship with God, Holy Mass is celebrated each school day.
Every boy studies the basic beliefs and faith practices of Catholicism and comes to appreciate the 2,000-plus year history and the reasons why one billion people share the Catholic faith across the world today.
It is the hope that through the singing of the Mass and understanding the rich musical tradition of the Church, each boy will appreciate at a deeper level the power of God in his life and thus respond as faith-filled individuals.
Attending Mass for Catholic boys also involves so much more than singing and serving. It also involves the reception of Holy Communion, which as Catholics we believe is a sacramental encounter with Jesus. Non-Catholic students approach the priest for a prayerful blessing at this time.
